About the Owner
In 1968 I was born in Manilla, Philippines where my parents
were serving a 7 year Lutheran mission. Being born into a 3rd
World Country afforded me first hand witness to extreme poverty
and less than desirable living conditions. Despite the pain
and suffering that so many Philippinos experienced, they were
for the most part a happy, joyful and abundant people. Attending
an international school with children from all over the world
speaking many languages and having different cultural backgrounds
was such an amazing experience. This early exposure at an early
age opened my eyes, mind and heart to the pain and suffering
that people experience all over the earth. This remains imbedded
and imprinted in my mind, body and spirit today.
Upon my family's return to the United States, my parents decided
to settle on Bear Run Road in Logan, OH, Hocking Hills, the
foothills of the Appalachian Mountains (just a few miles from
where my father grew up). Not having much money and coming from
poor farming families, my parents purchased a dilapidated old
farm house with no running water, an outhouse and no electricity.
With this came 36 acres of land. The farmhouse is now a beautiful
bed and breakfast, The Bear Run Inn. Out of necessity, my family
had an organic farm and produced most vegetables, meats and
some fruit. Money was always scarce growing up but we had a
close family, a warm home, fresh/healthy food, clean spring
water and most of all the beautiful rolling and green hills
of Hocking to wake up to each day for renewal and refreshment.
My father was a Lutheran Minister for over 25 years in Logan
and Lancaster. Part of my youth was spent attending Catholic
school.
Through my history and exposure I have learned to be open,
loving and accepting towards people of various faiths and religious
backgrounds. It is my belief that when one gains individual
peace, this leads the way to the entire world gaining peace
and freedom.
Please come and visit. Our oasis will nourish your mind, body
and spirit!
In peace, love and joy,
Gwen
